FAQ

What is Dryer Vent Cleaning?
Dryer vent cleaning is an important yet simple solution to many common dryer problems. Here are a few ways to identify if you need a dryer vent cleaning service:

  • If your dryer takes longer than 35-40 minutes to dry one load of laundry, you might have a clogged dryer vent.
  • If you’ve noticed that your energy bill has increased from $18-$24 each month without a change in electrical use, you might have a clogged dryer vent.
  • If your vent is hot to the touch or emitting a burning smell, you definitely have a clogged dryer vent.
What is a Dryer Vent? How is it cleaned?
Your dryer vent is the vent found behind the dryer, which carries moisture and lint through its length and expels these materials out of the home. (All gas dryer vents should vent to the outside of the home according to U.S. and Canadian law. This ensures that any potential carbon dioxide produced is vented away from the home).

We utilize the best method of cleaning dryer vents which is  a flexible agitation tool with a long reach (40 feet or more) and a vacuum system. The agitation tool is a rotary brush located on the end of a flexible rod which is able to clean the sides of the dryer vent system and is flexible enough to clean a 90 degree corner. Because a huge amount of moisture flows through the system to the outside it mixes with lint and can stick to the sides of the pipe and can become rigid, almost like paper machete, requiring a brushing action to remove the dried lint off the surface of the pipe.

Dryer Vent Pro provides dryer vent cleaning, maintenance, repairs, installation and dryer vent inspections for homes and businesses in your area.

How Often Should I Clean My Vent?
This depends on many factors: how much laundry you do and how often you do laundry, plus how many towels you use and if you have pets that shed hair, if your dryer vent is long and/or has several turns in it, etc. As a general rule of thumb for heavy use you should have the dryer vent cleaned at least once a year, but for minimum use you should have it cleaned on average once every 2 years. It’s really something which needs to be maintained. Just because the dryer seems to be working fine is definitely not a good reason to put off cleaning it.

Does a Dryer Vent Cleaning improve efficiency?
Yes! When a dryer vent is clogged with lint, air flow is greatly restricted, which causes your dryer to run longer. This uses unnecessary energy, which drives up your utility bills and puts your appliance at great risk for a break down. Appliance repairs are not only expensive; they are avoidable. Calling a professional dryer vent cleaner from Dryer Vent Pro to clean out your dryer vent will ensure that your vent is clear of the debris that causes high energy costs for homes and businesses.
How does a Dryer Vent Cleaning prevent fires?
Failure to clean the dryer vent is the cause of most of these fires. In fact, your clothes dryer is more likely to cause a fire than your furnace, stove, and chimney combined. Prolonged drying cycles can overheat the lint trapped in the dryer vent. This built-up lint can ignite within the dryer cabinet, causing a dryer fire in your home. In 2005, the National Fire Protection Association estimated that 15,500 residential fires were caused by clothes dryer vents, causing over 440 injures, including 14 deaths, and over $207 million in property damage. In fact, clothes dryer fires was the most reoccurring cause for home fires, beating out those furnaces and water heaters that are checked annually.
Do You Install New Dryer Vents?
Yes. We use professional-grade metal venting for our dryer vent installation work whenever possible.

A lot of our customers ask for  this service in order to meet building codes. Very often we encounter white plastic or aluminum foil flexible vinyl venting hose which is against building codes because it is the leading cause of fire breakouts. We highly recommend these inferior products definitely be replaced to ensure the safety of your family.

In other cases where the building contractor did a poor job or used inferior flexible hoses that have failed or didn’t actually finish the job properly venting to the outside so that the dryer vent is actually exhausting the hot, moist air into the attic or in between walls or somewhere else into the house… we have been called in to replace the existing inferior system.

As part of installing a new venting system we sometimes have to open up sheet rock walls. We are experienced and equipped to patch up any sheet rock that we have to remove and we can leave it for you in a condition to just be repainted.

We are also equipped to install outside vents through exterior walls and roofs. These, of course, are sealed water tight and that’s guaranteed.

If it vents to the roof, we can service as long as there is roof access.
